HPC Foods, Ltd. was founded in 1946 by Kakuichi Tottori as Honolulu Poi Company. It started as a small poi milling operation with 3 employees and has grown to be one of the state’s largest poi manufacturers and a leader in the development of taro products.

In the early 1960’s the company entered the market of growing sprouts and has become the largest sprouter in Hawaii.

To fully utilize the growing fleet of refrigerated delivery trucks, the company also pursued distribution of products manufactured by other local and mainland companies.

In the 1970’s, foreseeing the opportunities in the foodservice industry, HPC Foods entered the cut vegetable and fruit processing industry.

In order to supplement the periodic short supply of raw material, an experimental farm was started in Haleiwa to improve agricultural practices in growing taro.

In 1990, the company name was changed from Honolulu Poi Company, Ltd. to HPC Foods, Ltd. This change symbolizes a commitment to continued growth and diversification in the food industry.

In an effort to promote the use and consumption of taro in Hawaii’s modern culture, the company introduced taro products, such as Taro Pancake Mix,  Taro Bread Mix, and Hawaiian Poi Powder.

Recognizing the importance of food safety and quality, HPC Foods built a 9,000 square foot Produce Processing Center, which opened in June, 2004.

HPC Foods continues to grow and prosper on the simple philosophy of “Quality Customer Service and Products”.
